Parks & Recreation & Woodford County lost a true legend this week. Gary Jones, former Director of the Versailles-Woodford County Parks & Recreation Department, passed away Thursday after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Gary never met a stranger and those of us who knew him or worked with him loved him for his heart, his passion and commitment to serve his community. His service to the kids of Woodford County impacted thousands and adults who had the good fortune of being coached by Gary, or participating in programs run by him when they were children, still talk about the impact Gary made on their lives as young athletes.
He was a dreamer who believed in Falling Springs before anyone else even new it was possible and then he found a way to make it a reality. That was Gary…a dreamer and a doer.
The Woodford County community is better off because of Gary Jones, whether they knew him or not, and those of us who worked with him would not be the people we are today without his influence in our lives.
Gary, we love you and your legacy lives on in us. We are all better because we knew you. Rest in peace Bumpy!
