Middle School & High School Interscholastic programs are formatted as USTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT) programs.  JTT is the largest youth tennis program in the country, helping girls & boys get in the game, get on the court, & have a good time. Teams are coed & made up of at least six players based on similar ages & skill levels. The emphasis is on skill development, fun, teamwork & friendly competition.

USTA JTT is for girls and boys of all abilities and experience. Whether your child has been playing for years, or has never held a racquet, there’s a spot on the team for them! Parks & Recreation is partnering with Community Tennis Associations (CTA’s) in Frankfort, Georgetown & Lexington, and possibly other areas, to offer Middle School & High School kids an opportunity to play tennis this fall!

Middle School players participate in the Bluegrass Middle School Tennis League.  Areas participating are Frankfort, Georgetown, Lexington and possibly Richmond.  Matches are on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons and the season runs through the end of October, with a state tournament scheduled for November 2-4 in Louisville for those who want to play.

High School players participate in the Lexington High School Interscholastic Tennis League.  League participants include teams from Fayette County, Scott County, Frankflin County, Jessamine County, Montgomery County & more. Due to the distance of some teams, matches are scheduled on Saturdays and/or Sundays and will have 3-4  teams scheduled to play each other.  The season will run from September through mid  October with post-season tournament scheduled October 13-14 in Louisville.

All playing levels are welcome, even those brand new to tennis, and we’ll form multiple teams based on interest. Woodford County Middle School, High School, St. Leo, Versailles Montessori & home school students are welcome as are other 5th-12th graders who would like to participate.  There are no cuts & everybody plays!

These leagues are administered by the CTA’s and are considered a Jr. Team Tennis program affiliated with the USTA (it’s not affiliated with the KHSAA or school administration).  Format includes practices as well as home and away matches.  Cost is $65 per player* (+ a USTA membership – seen note below on USTA Memberships).  Contact Rainey with questions.

Our Middle School & High School Leagues require a USTA Jr. Membership ($20) that is current through August 30 of 2019. Membership allows your child to play in any USTA sanctioned tournament, league or event throughout the year.  Please do not let this deter you from registering your child. Parks & Rec can walk you through this process in the main office or by phone.

For returning players, in the past Parks & Rec has purchased or renewed your child’s membership for you, but due to new privacy requirements, USTA will no longer allow us to do this. If you are not sure of your child’s membership number or  expiration date, please contact Rainey and she can give you this information based on previous years.

The deadline to register for the Youth Basketball/Cheerleading program is in mid-October each year.  If you have questions about our leagues, many answers are available in our Frequently Asked Questionsdocument.  If your question isn’t answered there, please contact Recreation Program Coordinator Aaron Stover at 859-873-5948 or by email.

The Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) and the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) to bring the “Sticks for Kids” program to Woodford County. Through this program, the Department has received 10 sets of free golf clubs for the development of golf programming in Woodford County.  These clubs will be used in future clinics and camps but may also be checked out by the general public for use for free! Clubs are available on a first come, first served basis when they are not being used for Parks & Recreation programs.  The intent is for families to be able to allow their child to try golf and decide if they like it before they decide to purchase their own.  Various sizes are available for children between the ages of 8 and 14. Those interested in checking out clubs should come to the Department, located in the Falling Springs Center, between 9 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday and complete a Golf Club Sign Out Form. A photo ID and credit card number must be provided when equipment is checked out. Borrowers are financially responsible for clubs that are damaged or not returned. To download a check-out form, please click HERE.  (Remember, clubs may only be checked-out in the Parks & Recreation offices Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and a photo ID and Credit Card are required).  Contact Rainey at (859) 873-5948 or by EMAILif you have any questions.
