Parks & Recreation offers a variety of tennis programs for youth ages 5 and up through adult. An organizational member of the United States Tennis Association, Parks & Rec offers tennis opportunities for beginner youth players through competitive Junior Team Tennis Programs and more as well as for adult players.

Our youth tennis captains and coaches are USTA Net Generation certified meaning they have completed a thorough background check through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) and Safe Play, an online training required by USTA National for all individuals who work with junior tennis players in any capacity.

We work closely with USTA Kentucky, area Community Tennis Associations, Midway University and the Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships to provide a variety of play opportunities for youth and adults of all ages and abilities.  From camps, clinics, leagues, tournaments and more, there’s a place on the court for you at Parks & Rec!

Parks & Recreation partners with Community Tennis Associations (CTA’s) in Central Kentucky offer Middle School & High School kids an opportunity to play tennis in the fall!

Middle School players participate in the Bluegrass Middle School Tennis League and includes weekly practices and matches.  Areas participating are Frankfort, Georgetown, Lexington and possibly Richmond.  Matches are on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons and the season runs through mid to late October.

High School players participate in the Bluegrass Tennis Association High School Interscholastic Tennis League and includes weekly practices and matches. League participants include teams from Lexington, Frankfort, Georgetown, Richmond, Nicholasville, etc. Due to the distance of some teams, scheduling may include multiple teams playing dual or tri matches, typically on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons. The season runs from early September to mid-October.

All playing levels are welcome, even those brand new to tennis, and we’ll form multiple teams based on interest. Woodford County Middle School, High School, St. Leo, Versailles Montessori & home school students are welcome as are other 6th-12th graders who would like to participate.  There are no cuts & everybody plays!

These leagues are administered by the CTA’s and are considered a Jr. Team Tennis program affiliated with the USTA (it’s not affiliated with the KHSAA or school administration).  Format includes practices as well as home and away matches. Contact Rainey with questions.

  • Cost is $85 per player (includes shirt & instruction)
  • Practices projected to be Tuesday evenings

Junior Team Tennis Leagues require a USTA Jr. Membership ($20) that is current through August 30 of 2020. Membership allows your child to play in any USTA sanctioned tournament, league or event throughout the year. Please do not let this deter you from registering your child. Parks & Rec can walk you through this process in the main office or by phone.

Returning families may remember that Parks & Rec purchased or renewed your child’s membership for you, but USTA no longer allows us to do this. If you are not sure of your child’s membership number or  expiration date, please contact Rainey and she may be able to pull this information for you from previous years.

Tennis Apprentice is an all-inclusive tennis program for beginner adults (18 & Over). You will learn how to play the game of tennis in a group with others at the same beginner level. This program is setup to be a fun learning experience for everyone involved.

Watch for details on our late Spring/Summer program!

This is a USTA (United States Tennis Association) non-member based social league designed to bring players back to the court and/or introduce players to an organized tennis program, where they know they will have an opponent each week.  Levels of play will vary; the coordinator will work to keep the level of competition good by placement of opponents each week.

This is not a program for beginner players, Tennis Apprentice is designed for those interested in learning the basics of tennis.

Check back in late summer for clinic updates!
